Reading Slavery

The Taubira law of May 10th, 2001 declared the slave trade and slavery in and in the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean « a crime against humanity » . It decides also that a committee of experts and associations will be elaborate to give advices to government for a politics of memory of slave trade and slavery in France. This communication will give a summary of all the actions of the Comité National pour la Mémoire et l'Histoire de l'Esclavage.

Myriam Cottias is head of the french Comité National pour la Mémoire et l’Histoire de l’Esclavage and leader of the research center Centre International de recherches sur les esclavages (CIRESC)
